ANYTHING labeled “sugar-free” is like waving a red flag in front of me because generally it contains artificial sweeteners, or the actual included sugars are unknown as
“sugar” to most consumers. Sucralose, dextrose, allulose (still sugar),etc., aspartame is horrible…just a few. My diabetic husband used Splenda bc we believed the hype. I rarely used it bc I don’t like my coffee or tea sweetened, but even with minimal use I began having extreme inflammation in my knees. Very swollen and painful. When I learned Splenda caused inflammation among other things, I got rid of it. Within 2-3 days I was grocery shopping and noticed I was able to walk around the store without needing to sit down. When I pushed my cart full of groceries to my car, which was quite a distance from the door AND on a slight incline, my knees DID NOT HURT like they normally would. Huh! Seriously? yep. When I had to walk up a steep and narrow staircase and then descend, I no longer felt like an invalid bc my knees were no longer swollen and painful. I already knew about Aspartame and the like and avoided them. Now, I could no longer avoid the truth about Splenda, either. Years have passed and I know the negative effects of carbs, period. But even with “natural” sweeteners, I just don’t use them. However, IF I feel the need to include sugar in something, baking for instance, I choose to use regular sugar or honey. At least those are pretty devoid of manmade chemicals. And it’s a rare day when I buy any kind of processed/commercially packaged products. Rare, but on occasion I might due to a family gathering or something like that, but basically….rare. I avoid 99% of grains, also. Oats are horse feed. Corn, which I adore but avoid, is used to fatten cattle before slaughter for the market... think about it…what are you getting fattened up for? I used to make our own bread, especially sourdough. Gave up grains…no wheat, not because I “can’t” eat it, rather bc it’s not good for my body. Do I wish I could still eat bread…my own creations….of course I do. But it’s just me now and I no longer can justify baking it….especially sourdough…have to discard it and keep feeding it…with gluten…so what’s the point? Thankfully, I am a meat eater who still indulges in a few raw or frozen very low GI vegetables. No fruit, which also pains me but it is a conscious decision on my part. At 81 I still have a good healthy appetite….and I’m trying to be as healthy overall as I can be…my lab numbers are continuing to go down. That is more satisfying to me in the long run than sugar ever could be.

I have been using splenda daily for yeasrs and using about 8 to 10 packets of it a day! For months I have been seeing my doctor trying to find out why I have had chronic headaches, head pressure, swelling/bloating, gut & back pain, blurry eye, weird woosy feelings, and generally feeling like I am going to die.
I gave up dairy, that wasn't it
I gave up caffeine, that wasn't it
I went to a low carb diet, that wasn't it
I gave up splenda, BINGO!!!!
Every horrible miserable symptom I had was gone in a day! After about 2 weeks I had a cup of coffee with 2 splenda packets in it, and with in 1 hour, I again had a horrible headache and was miserably bloated!

By buying Splenda, this is what you are supporting:
"32 beagle dogs were locked in metal cages for 52 weeks. They were given Sucralose (Splenda) mixed in with their normal feed, and blood and urine samples were collected. At the end of the study they were killed by means of exsanguination - they had their throats slit open and bled to death. They were then cut open and their organs - by now drained of blood so easier to dissect - were examined to test the product's toxicity levels.
Four beagle puppies were starved before being force-fed the super-sweet sugar powder. HLS employees then took blood samples from the jugulars of the infant dogs."

Information from:
http://www.buycott.com/campaign/314/please-do-not-use-splenda

There is a reason for why splenda is tested on animals, because it must be really toxic and bad for you. Sugar is real and the way to go and its natural. Your mindset should not revolve around losing weight. And with the name Sugar Free Mom, i hope you don't give splenda to your kids. And please re-think your decision about using splenda.

No offense but this sounds really hoaky... There is nothing wrong with Splenda. You were craving sweet stuff all the time because you were consuming NO CALORIES. Which you cannot live on. Splenda is good for replacing sugar from time to time but not in everything you eat. I use a little in my coffee or ice tea instead of sugar. Nothing bad has EVER happened to me from it and I have not gained weight from it.
Now,aspertame on the hand,is another story. But there are absolutely NO STUDIES that show that Splenda is harmful. Do the research.
