Have you avoided making homemade hummus thinking it was too time consuming or you might not get the flavors just right like when you buy it?
It’s super easy and this recipe is the perfect basic recipe to get you started. From here you can add all sorts of add in’s you want.
You can stir in any of these add in’s once the base is made: chopped kalamata olives, sun dried tomatoes, roasted red peppers or just make it more garlicky by increasing the garlic I used with 2 more cloves.
It comes together in 5 minutes, seriously! Have a blender or food processor? That’s all you need and the ingredients of course LOL!

Thanks much for the reminder! I absolutely love hummus! My hubby keeps purchasing it (although always on sale) but I have had the items in the house to make it myself for a good 6-8 months! Will pull out the food processor today. Need to stop procrastinating!
I am just wondering what “tahini” is? I cannot seem to find in in my local store? Any tips on brand names or what aisle would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
It’s a sesame seed puree, same texture as peanut butter. I’ve found it at whole foods, not sure if my regular market sells it. often found near the peanut butter or Asian section.
It would be in the ethnic foods section. Try a national chain grocery store.
What can I substitute for the tahini? I’m allergic to sesame seeds! Thanks!
Some people just make it without. Here are some ideas however:
