How to Make Keto Smoothies
Making smoothies isn't a new thing of course, but making them keto friendly and low carb is definitely new to many.
Berries are a wonderful source of vitamins, minerals and a great source of antioxidants.
They are low on the glycemic index and perfectly acceptable on a low carb and keto diet. Some choose not to enjoy any fruit at all on a keto diet, but I believe you can have some flexibility even when eating just 20 total carbs a day.
While this low carb smoothie recipe can be enjoyed for a quick breakfast or any meal of the day, I'd add some collagen or or a scoop of protein powder or whey protein for the added protein benefit.
This is an easy berry smoothie recipe, and if you don't enjoy fresh berries on a daily basis, it may even taste like a luscious dessert to you!

unsweetened almond milk)
Other optional add ins; vanilla extract, low carb sweetener or sugar substitutes you prefer, collagen powder, vanilla protein powder, peanut butter, almond butter or nut butter of choice, MCT oil
Place everything in a blender and process until smooth.
If it's too thick add more coconut or almond milk, if it's too thin for your liking add in some ice cubes and a little xanthan gum to thicken or create a creamy texture you prefer.
Top with optional whipped cream and berries if desired.

This recipe has just 5 ingredients and optional sugar free whipped cream if desired. It's quickly made in your high-speed blender and add in's like collagen, protein powder, MCT oil and even some nut butters would really make this even more satisfying and filling.
But the basic recipe is just a handful of ingredients and is simple enough. Feel free to add more healthy fats like a ripe avocado if you like.
Do I need to use frozen berries?
You don't need to use frozen berries but it does help if they are frozen so you won't really need to add any ice which can water down the smoothie. If using fresh berries be sure to have them cold and add ice to you glass to enjoy smoothie.
Can I use blueberries?
You certainly could swap out any of the fresh berries I chose for this fruity smoothie. All berries are low in grams of net carbs so watch portions.
Can I use macadamia nut milk?
It's a pretty creamy smoothie using the coconut milk but you can certainly swap out the coconut milk for any dairy milk or non-dairy milk of choice. Just be mindful that using a milk that has less fat, could change the texture and may not a thick smoothie.
Can I make this a green smoothie?
A great addition to this easy keto smoothie would be to add some fresh spinach or kale.
