Carbs in Traditional Espresso Martini
According to the app Cronometer, one serving of a traditional espresso martini has 310 calories, and 31 grams of carbs with 23 grams of sugar.
This is not something to indulge in if you are following a keto diet, low carb diets or just looking to have less sugar in your diet. This would spike blood sugar and cause sugar cravings.
โOur keto-friendly espresso martini mocktail has zero calories, zero grams of sugar and zero grams of carbs!

Simple Ingredients and Substitutions
โEspresso
Freshly brewed espresso is essential here for that deep coffee flavor. If you donโt have an espresso machine, strong brewed coffee works just fine as a substitute.ย
Coffee liqueur substitute
Instead of traditional coffee liqueur, which contains sugar and alcohol, this recipe uses a sugar-free coffee simple syrup and flavored coffee extract and rum extract add sweetness and depth.ย
Sweetener
I chose to make my simple sugar free syrup, keto-friendly liquid sweetener like vanilla stevia or monk fruit keeps this mocktail sugar-free without using artificial sweeteners. If youโre new to keto sweeteners, start with less and adjust to your preference.
Plenty of Ice
Crushed or cubed ice chills the drink nicely, helping to mellow out the strong espresso and mix all the ingredients into a perfectly refreshing treat.

Chef Tips
โ#1 Brew espresso fresh
For the best flavor, brew your espresso right before making the mocktail. Freshly brewed espresso has a richer crema and more intense aroma, which really brings this drink to life.
#2 Chill your glass
Pop your martini glass in the freezer while you prepare the drink. Serving this mocktail in a chilled glass keeps the silky texture intact longer, making every sip enjoyable.
#3 Use a shaker properly
When shaking, donโt just give it a quick shakeโaim for a vigorous 15-20 seconds. This aerates the drink and creates that irresistible frothy layer on top thatโs signature to an espresso martini.
#4 Balance your sweetener
Since keto sweeteners can vary in sweetness intensity, start with a small amount and taste as you go. This way, you avoid over-sweetening, which can mask the nuanced coffee flavors.
#5 Experiment with extracts
If you want to jazz up your mocktail, a drop or two of vanilla or almond extract adds a surprising dimension that pairs beautifully with the espresso without adding carbs.
#6 Use fresh ice
Old or partially melted ice waters down your drink. Fresh ice cubes keep the flavors crisp and ensure the right chill factor without diluting your mocktail too quickly.
#7 Garnish with coffee beans
Add a little flair by garnishing with three coffee beans on top of the froth โ a simple but classic touch that signals this drink means business, even without alcohol.

Flavor Boosters
โAdd a pinch of cinnamon
Sprinkling a little cinnamon into the shaker adds warmth and subtle spice that complements the coffee notes beautifully without extra carbs.
Use flavored extracts
1 teaspoon vanilla extract, almond, or even hazelnut extract amps up complexity. Just a few drops can turn a simple mocktail into an unforgettable delicious drink.
Whipped cream topping
For an indulgent twist, a dollop of sugar free whipped cream on top brings creamy luxury and balances the strong espresso bite.
Cocoa powder dust
A light dusting of unsweetened cocoa powder adds a mocha vibe and visually makes your mocktail feel like a special occasion.

Troubleshooting Common Problems
โMocktail tastes bitter
If your espresso is overpowering, try using a blend thatโs less intense shot espresso or cut the amount by a bit.
Sweetener aftertaste
Some keto sweeteners have a noticeable aftertaste, but my favorite for liquid mocktails and cocktails is my keto simple syrup.
Feel free to swap with another sweetener of choice, preferable a liquid low carb sweetener to taste.
No frothy layer
Make sure to use fresh hot brewed espresso and shake the mocktail vigorously with ice. If your shaker isnโt well-sealed or too large, you might not get that beautiful creamy froth.
I do not recommend using cold brew coffee as you won’t get a frothy top.
Drink too watery
Use fresh, solid ice cubes rather than crushed or melting ones to avoid dilution. Also, double-check your espresso-to-water ratio is strong enough.
Can I make this mocktail ahead of time?
Itโs best enjoyed fresh for that frothy, creamy texture, but you can prepare the espresso base and sweetener mix in advance. Just shake with ice and cream right before serving.
What else can I use besides making sugar free simple syrup?
If you don’t have the time to make my keto simple syrup recipe, I would recommend buying liquid Allulose or use vanilla liquid stevia or liquid monk fruit.ย
Can I use instant coffee?
I do not recommend instant coffee or instant espresso for this espresso mocktail. I think you could use hot brewed regular coffee and still get a nice frothy top.
Is this recipe caffeine-free?
No, this recipe contains real espresso, so it has caffeine. If you want a caffeine-free version, use decaf espresso or strong decaf coffee instead.
How many carbs are in this mocktail?
The carb count for this mocktail is zero.
Can I add alcohol to this recipe?
You certainly can if you want to turn it into a classic espresso martini low carb cocktail, just add vodka and you’ve got a delicious espresso coffee keto cocktail.
Can I add heavy whipping cream?
Sure, if you want a creamier drink, you can add a little bit of heavy cream to your glass. It’s a great choice for a White Russian mocktail!
What size for martini glasses do I need?
I purchased these 10 oz martini glass set of two but an 8 ounce would be a good espresso martini glass for this recipe as well.
